Autograph Trade

In a group that I am in we sometimes trade and do a thing like a secret sender a lot like secret Santa where you don't know what your getting or from who. Today mine came from Greg who lives in Texas. All they have to go on is what we tell the group and then they try and do their best.

1st one that I took out of the envelope was an index card signed by Larry McCarren who played for the Green Bay Packers back in the day. This was very cool because I like football and more recently started to venture into the NFL a bit.

Speaking of the NFL brings me into the 2nd one I pulled from the envelope. I was raised in the 70's and this is when all the cool guys were around like Joe Namath, Terry Bradshaw etc etc. One guy I liked was Rosey Grier. I thought he was very cool and I actually like the movie 'The thing with 2 heads'. Greg had sent me this photo signed by Rosey.

I am also a big fan of the CFL and although I do lean towards the Tigercats more I do like to follow other teams and players. Greg sent me a signed card of Jeff Fuller who played for the Aggies in Texas. But now Jeff plays for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL. I thought it was really nice that Greg went through his collection to find a player that he knew I would like because he was in the CFL.

It was a really good week and now we'll see how next week goes.See you on Monday..

M*A*S*H

Growing up in the 70's there was a lot of shows to watch and one show that was extremly popular was M*A*S*H. I wasn't a fan of the show at first but then I got into it and I really enjoyed the show. I have several autographs from people who were on the show and many guest stars. I picked up some old MASH cards and decided to send some out to get signed and so far.

Alan Alda who played Hawkeye Pierce was doing a play and I decided to send him a few of the cards that I had with him on them.  It took awhile to hear but I did and Alan signed my card for me. I had sent him 2 and this is one of them.

The next one I sent to was Mike Farrell who played B.J Hunnicut on the show. I also sent Mike a few cards that I had and he signed them all for me. Mike is married to actress Shelley Fabares who did a few movies with Elvis Presley. Mike had Shelley sign a picture for me as well.

Last but not least Jamie Farr was doing a play in Hamilton, Ontario. I had several cards of him as Maxwell Klinger and I took a chance and sent them all. To my surprise Jaime signed all the cards for me. This being the best one of the bunch.

There were so many other actors on the show that made it what it was. The show still plays today and I still watch it from time to time.

Mickey Rooney

On October 1st, 2010 Mickey Rooney was touring 'Let's put on a show' with his wife Jan. I was over the moon. I grew up watching Mickey in films and on tv shows. There was/is just something about him that I liked and I really wanted to meet him and get his autograph. We went to the print shop and ran off a photo of Mickey with Judy Garland and waited for the day to arrive. In the mean time I ended up with a small poster for the show as well. I parked the car and we made our way to the backstage door to wait it out.

There was a white car and a guy unloading a suitcase so I went over to him and asked him if Mickey was already here and in there? He said yes so I thought I missed out and I will have to wait it out, He then said if you want I can take your picture in and have him sign it for you..Which is great and all but I wanted to meet my idol so I said. Is there anyway that maybe I could meet Mickey? I told him about being a HUGE fan and everything else and none of this was a lie just to get in either. He looked at s and then said wait here.He was gone for about 5 minutes and then came back held the door opened and said come on it !!! I couldn't believe it I was going to meet Mickey Rooney.

My wife and I head in and I am totally star struck when I seen to my left a little old man headed towards me holding a sandwich on a plate that he had just made. I know I was lost for words but I did get HI Mickey out and he said hi and shook my hand I am telling him how big of a fan I am and he is going awe go on. Talking and he looks like he is going to lose his sandwich off the plate. He signed my Photo and then my poster and posed for photo's with me. I was in heaven this is the first time I was actually lost for words then Mickey said you got to meet my wife and starts calling for Jan who opens the door. I said hi and she signed my poster as well. Mickey had to get ready for his 2 O'Clock show so we said good bye and I thanked Chris for letting us in.

Well here I am once again trying out a blog to show off some of the autographs I have received and the ones I do receive. I use to get a lot of autographs TTM (Through The Mail) but I have slowed down a lot because I have almost all the ones I wanted either by writing them, trading for them or actually meeting them which is always the fun way to get an autograph. Hopefully I can keep this going by sharing my experiences with you either it be getting a autograph in the mail or sharing a story about meeting one of many celebrities over the years and I have met many,

So far this being Monday I didn't get anything in the mail today but on Saturday I did pick up a book that is signed by Hockey Legend Eddie Shack & author Ross Brewitt.

The book is in great shape although it does smell like it has been in storage for a long time but that will wear off after awhile. Eddie signed the book in blue in and Ross signed it in black. The scan doesn't do the signatures justice because they are bold and clean and easily read..
